A few days ago this sensor was replaced under warranty at the dealer. On the way home from dealer the CEL showed up again and the code is P24AE- Particulate Matter Sensor Circuit. BMW began fitting Diesel Particulate Filters to their larger diesel engines in 2004 / 5, and their roll out started with any model which uses the popular 3.0 Diesel Engine. (1) Being “new” to the DPF concept, it seems to me that mixed mileage drivers should always have an “additive” on board (‘don’t leave home without it’) because electronics and ‘heat’ (sensing) don’t always go together well; (2) I am an American, but a Diesel-Head and a Diesel-Sympathizer, and am NOW the proud owner of an American EPA
CEL on and told I need a new Diesel Particulate Sensor and don't know what that is. I know there's a Particulate Filter and an Exhaust Temperature Sensor (near the Filter) but no Particulate Sensor. BMW wants almost $1400 so, of course, "no" but wonder what to do next. Vehicle is a 2014 with N57 engine and 30K. Thanks very much for help!
